About Mimay Gulet Yacht

MIMAY yacht is a two-masted motor-sailer built in 1978 by Ekrem Basegmez. This beautiful schooner underwent a complete redesign over the course of three years and was rebuilt from the keel up using traditional Italian shipbuilding techniques. The MIMAY’s home port is Capo D’Orlando, Sicily, and she sails under the Italian flag. MIMAY gulet yacht sails mainly around the Aeolian Islands in the summer and near Palermo in the winter. MIMAY is a vintage vessel, a seamless blend of the ancient and the futuristic, one of a kind.

The MIMAY gulet is 21.30 meters long with a beam of 5.70 meters. It is equipped with a single 167 HP engine and a 27 kW generator. Its maximum speed reaches 7 knots. The schooner MIMAY features three decks, each divided into distinct areas to ensure that every couple has access to a private space, without sacrificing communal areas for socializing.

The atmosphere inside and outside MIMAY is straight out of the early decades of the 20th century! The dining area consists of three distinct spaces, connected by wood paneling at the bottom and slats at the top; all the portholes are made from salvaged ship materials, mostly dating back to the early 1930s, and the furniture predates the 1940s. A wonderful example of the fusion of the old and the new, it offers both great functionality and elegance on the one hand, and lightness and simplicity on the other. This concept finds its ultimate expression in the bar cabinet—a fusion of the old and the new, crafted from steel and marble and incorporated into an antique pharmacy cabinet dating back to 1890.

MIMAY luxury yacht can accommodate 6 guests in 3 cabins, each with a full-beam layout featuring portholes along the side, queen-size beds, twin nightstands, fold-down writing desks, and marble bathrooms with spacious showers. The interiors are reminiscent of early 20th-century colonial ships, with honey-toned wood and ivory-colored paneling; the technology remains discreet, with retractable outlets, TVs set into wooden frames, and air conditioning concealed behind teak grilles.

MIMAY is a gulet yacht rigged as a “mast-rigged brigantine.” The mainmast features two tops and yards with square sails, while at the stern there is a gaff-rigged mainsail with a staysail. The choice of such a distinctive rig, enhanced by the use of various elements such as cleats, blocks, and wooden pulleys, was driven by the desire to recreate on board the thrill of the ancient and picturesque sailing styles of the late nineteenth century. The vessel is not powered solely by sail but also by motor, depending on the various routes and itineraries chosen.
